In an ever-changing world, a fraternity-like the Shriners provides you with a sense of belonging and a network of lifelong friends.

Not every Freemason is a Shriner, but every Shriner is a Freemason. In order to join Tunis Shriners, you must be a member of the Masonic order living in Eastern Ontario. So continue to look further at the information found on this site, and we hope it will at least make you curious enough to want to initiate a conversation that might satisfy your curiosity.

Becoming a member of the Shrine is considered an honour and a privilege amongst men.

Who Should Become a Shriner?
Good men who aspire to a better, more full life. Those who would like to help the less fortunate, and those who want to create bonds of brotherhood and friendship with men of similar belief. You must believe in God, but the interpretation and manner of worship is left to each individual to decide. You must be an adult, of 21 years of age.
How Do You Become a Shriner?
The first thing to realize is that all Shriners are Freemasons, and in order to be a Tunis Shriner you must be a 3rd Degree Freemason in good standing with a lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario.

Do I need to be invited to join?
No, indeed the opposite is true – you need to ask. In order to become a Shriner you first must be a Freemason, and our fraternity discourages solicitation of new members. The act of asking to join is an important first step that must be taken freely.
How much does it cost?
The cost to join a lodge of Freemasons varies by lodge – there are upfront initiation fees (which can range from $200 to $1000) and yearly dues thereafter ($100 to $200/year).

In order to join the Tunis Shriners, the initiation fees are currently $275 (membership, and initiation) and the yearly dues are $75.

Can my wife join with me?
While it’s true that women are not members of the Shriners fraternity, they play a significant role in many aspects of the organization. There are also several independent groups for women that support the fraternity and philanthropy. These include the Daughters of the Nile, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Shrine Guilds of North America, and Order of the Eastern Star.  Organizations for children and young people include DeMolay International, Job’s Daughters International, and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
